Hello from the United Arab Emirates, where the Dubai Future Forum (DFF) has just completed two packed days of rich discussions. One of the event’s early panels addressed philanthropy’s investment in a future world, a topic that has taken on greater salience in light of the massive gap in financing for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Huge funding shortfalls have again been a leading topic for negotiation at the global conferences on biodiversity and climate that have taken place over the past few weeks.
Speakers on this DFF panel included representatives of three philanthropic foundations headquartered outside of traditional donor countries — the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation, the EdelGive Foundation, and the Safaricom Foundation. Dubai-based Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation supports the provision of technology-based education opportunities and skills development to Emirati and Arab youth, helping them prepare for a successful transition into higher education and the labor market.
Operating out of Mumbai, the EdelGive Foundation provides grants in India to small and mid-sized organisations that empower children through education, women through social and economic empowerment, and vulnerable communities through resilient livelihoods.
